Dental implants
Replacing missing teeth can boost your self-esteem and improve your chewing ability as well as your oral health. Dental implants provide a stable and durable solution that mimics the appearance and feel of natural teeth.
Losing teeth affects more than just your smile. Missing teeth can also impair your ability to chew, reduce your sense of taste, lead to new dental problems, and further teeth loss. Dental implants have therefore become an increasingly common option for those who want to replace their missing teeth.
A dental implant is a method of replacing lost teeth and consists of a screw, usually made of titanium, which is attached to the jawbone and replaces the root of the tooth. Depending on the extent of the treatment, a crown or a bridge is then attached to the screw. Most often, the crown is made of porcelain and is color-matched to your other teeth, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing look.
Why choose dental implants?
The primary benefits of dental implants include their stability and the way they integrate with the jawbone, mimicking natural teeth more closely than removable dentures or dental bridges. This integration helps preserve the jawbone and prevent the oral health problems associated with tooth loss. Another big advantage with dental implants compared to bridges is that they do not require grinding and drilling into healthy, adjacent teeth.
How much does a dental implant cost?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on how many implants you need and the complexity of the treatment. Dental implants are a fairly extensive procedure, and comprehensive treatments can be costly. However, with financial support such as the dental care allowance and the high-cost protection, you can receive compensation for 50 percent of the reference price for a procedure between 3,000 and 15,000 SEK and 85 percent of the reference price for a procedure costing more than 15,000 SEK. The compensation is based on Försäkringskassan's reference price for the treatment. In order to have access to the dental care allowance and the high-cost protection you need to be insured in Sweden.

The loss of one or more teeth can significantly impact your mental and physical well-being, often leading to lower self-esteem. Many who have tackled this problem report an increased quality of life and strengthened self-confidence.
If you are suffering from missing teeth and considering dental implants, the first step is to schedule a consultation to determine if it is the right option for you. Fill in the form below and we will contact you as soon as we can.
How do you attach a dental implant?
The process begins with a thorough examination, including x-rays, to ensure you're a suitable candidate for implants. One of the biggest factors that determines whether dental implants are a suitable solution for you is that you have a strong and healthy jawbone. Certain illnesses and medications can increase the risk of complications, which can make dental implants unsuitable.
If your dentist determines that you are a suitable candidate, the next step includes a thorough walkthrough of the treatment plan. Thereafter, the actual implantation begins with surgically placing a titanium screw into the jawbone, which serves as an artificial root. This is done through a surgical procedure where the dentist folds away the gums to access the jawbone. A hole is then drilled into the jawbone into which the titanium screw is attached. The number of implants needed depends on the extent of tooth loss. Titanium is used because of its compatibility with body tissues and its ability to integrate with the bone, minimizing rejection risks. The procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure comfort; however, it is common to experience some post-operative soreness and pain.
After the procedure, the dental implants are allowed to integrate with the jawbone and surrounding tissue. This process varies in duration depending on the placement of the implants, but typically takes between a few months to six months. During this period, you will be provided with removable prostheses to fill the gaps. Once the dentist determines that the dental implants have sufficiently integrated, the new ceramic teeth can be attached. If a single tooth is being replaced, the new crown is directly attached to a spacer that is inserted into the implant. In case of multiple missing teeth, a bridge is constructed between the dental implants.
Why you should choose a specialist
With a good dentist and proper aftercare, dental implants provide a stable, effective, and often lifelong replacement for missing teeth. However, you should be aware that dental implants are a relatively extensive procedure that takes several months to complete. The best way to guarantee that you get a good and long-lasting result is therefore to go to an experienced specialist. While all licensed dentists can place dental implants, specialists often achieve a higher success rate due to their extensive experience.
Follow-up care
Proper hygiene routines around the implants are essential to prevent infection, and your dentist will provide advice on how to best maintain them. If the cleaning is not done correctly, there is a risk of bacteria reaching the implant and causing inflammation, which in the worst case can lead to you losing the implant. Smoking can also increase the risk of implant-related problems, so quitting is highly recommended to ensure the longevity of your implants.

The connection between oral health and general health
The loss of teeth can affect both your physical and psychological health. A direct consequence is that it impairs your ability to chew, which can lead to new tooth-related problems and further tooth loss.
There are also clear connections between poor oral health and your overall well-being. Research shows that there is a connection between tooth loss and, for example, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. Additionally, tooth loss can lead to social withdrawal and a decrease in life quality.
